A baseline in a lot of spiritual work is seeing clearly. Seeing other people, places, and things clearly is fine, but totally useless if you are unable to see yourself clearly first. Because, if you are not clear about you, how can you be clear about others?
If we stay in awareness, it soon becomes apparent by applying the awareness that I am not just my thoughts. I am the one aware of the thoughts. They are only a minor part of the total of me as an experience. I see myself in a clearer fashion and am already seeing others from a cleaner frame of reference. If I am not just my thoughts, then others are not just their thoughts either. It changes how we feel about everything. Compassion is triggered by seeing how every one of us is absolutely amazing and complex. Being human is challenging.
I agree in seeing clearly. One needs to have an open mind and open heart not clouded by judgement to see things clearly.
