Being the Thing I Value

Words are valuable when they lead to action or shift in perspective. But if priorities are on the pre-experience collecting of concepts, labels, and preparing to be someone else in the future, I will miss opportunities to act in the present moments. I will be busy preparing for a future “me.” I can be the worlds greatest expert on the concepts of kindness and still be an ass to everyone I meet in these current moments. Especially if I haven’t concluded that I experience kindness by being kind. Notice, being kind is about me wanting to experience feeling kind, I’m kind because I’m attracted to feeling that way, not in having me or anyone else observe me being kind or thinking of me as a kind person.  – from “A Human, Being.”
